@LGS:
ZMS is correct. The taiji ruler exercise I was referring to is the one where weight is transferred via a rocking method. I've actually never learned or seen the chen version ;)

@Chong:
Interesting notions about the car in relation to structural support and mind/qi support. I must admit, I've been working on the structural support for a long time and feel I have a long ways to go in this arena before I feel confident enough to pursue the mind/qi support route. Perhaps this will be my downfall of never 'breaking through to the other side'.. ;)

There is a very good article about horse stance training by Tony Yang, a Baji expert, from Liu Yun Qiao's linkage.

http://www.wutangcenter.com/wt/bajipigua.htm
HORSE STANCE TRAINING : THE FOUNDATION
Althought the above is about Baji, but I beleived it apply to all traditional martial art.

one must also differential between training, performance and actual fighting. this was mentioned by one the xingyi master in Guo Yun Shen era.

Also about so called "Mind support" vs "Structural support". My comment is everyone know that Ferrari is a fast sport car, but if you have not learn how to drive before, have not gone through race car training and would like to drive like Michael Schumacher with your new Ferrari, then good luck.

there are two types of taiji ruler - one is the type used in chen style and the other taiji ruler is actually a style in itself - judging from what Fong Ha mentioned it looks like he might be talking about the taiji ruler style because the exercises are based on a rocking to / fro movement between front and rear foot. brings back memories when i used to learned it in a park :-)
